The Belton Bridge Center

History of the Belton Bridge Center

The Belton Bridge Center of Las Cruces, New Mexico, ACBL Unit 380 was dedicated in April 1999. Previous bridge groups had established a savings account with moneys earned from Sectional Tournaments held over many years. In 1999, the membership of the group donated additional money to fund the purchase of the present site. An old convenience store was remodeled, most of the work being done by the membership.

The Blue Bells square dance club raised the money for and installed the beautiful hardwood floor in the building. They use the facility the second and fourth Saturday night each month.

The bridge center was named in memory of Roger Belton

(b. 10/20/68) and Michelle Gose Belton (b. 5/9/69). While on active duty in the U. S. Army, they were killed by a drunk driver on 10/18/1992.

A Board of Directors of seven people manages all Unit 380 business. Board members serve two-year terms. Elections for new board members are held in December of each year.

All bridge games function under the auspices of the American Contract Bridge League. A Unit game is held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, and these games are owned and run by the Unit Board of Directors. All other games are individually owned. All games are Sanctioned and Stratified and are run by a licensed director.

Unit 380 supports the Casa de Peregrinas charity. Members donate cash and food for the needy to this organization.
